In my view, nothing replaces face to face connection
No phone call, video meeting, email or text delivers the same outcome when it comes to meetings and events, no matter the topic or occasion. Humans are wired for in person connection and even as the way we work has changed, mostly since 2020, that part of ourselves has not.
Bringing people together matters more now than it ever did in the past, particularly in an age of remote work. Being able to look someone in the eye during a tough conversation, offer support when it’s needed, or simply sharing a laugh can completely change the dynamic.
Even if only slightly, a screen always gets in the way. Because shared, live experiences build stronger relationships, influence collaboration and create connections that last well beyond the event itself.
Virtual platforms absolutely have their place. They have made communication faster, more flexible and more accessible across time zones and teams but they tend to focus on efficiency rather than connection.
An in person event does something different. It creates space for the conversations that weren’t scheduled. The ideas that emerge between sessions. The introductions that lead to new partnerships. The moments where people relax, engage and genuinely connect.
These are the moments that build culture, strengthen trust and reinforce relationships in a way that a digital meeting simply cannot replicate.
For businesses, this matters. When people feel connected, they collaborate more effectively, communicate more openly and return to their roles with renewed energy and alignment.
This is why meetings, conferences and incentive programs remain such powerful tools. They bring teams together with purpose, creating shared experiences that leave a lasting impact long after everyone has returned home.
Technology will always play a role in how we communicate however when the goal is to inspire, reward, align or truly connect people, nothing replaces being in the same room.
That’s why getting people back together, face to face, still delivers the greatest return.
